Mrs. Miller received her Master and Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where she studied with James Walker and Gary Woodward. Other principal teachers include Catherine Ransom Karoly, Sarah Jackson, Heather Clark, Dr. John Barcellona, and Ellen Burr. She has had additional lessons with world-renowned artists including Jeanne Baxtresser, Leone Buyse, Ransom Wilson, and Carol Wincenc, among others.

As a flute instructor, Mrs. Miller teaches private lessons to students of all ages and levels in the San Gabriel Valley. She has had students earn top positions in highly competitive ensembles, including SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Groups, CBDA All-State Honor Groups, Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Pasadena Youth Symphony. As an MTAC certified instructor, she helps prepare students for Certificate of Merit testing and has maintained a 100% studio pass rate on the exam. She is currently the flute sectionals coach at South Pointe Middle School in Walnut, Huntington Middle School in San Marino and San Marino High School, where she also serves as a private flute instructor. She has held flute teaching positions at Chaparral Middle School, Cornerstone Music Conservatory, Rowland Heights Music and the Irvine Art and Music Center. Mrs. Miller was largely involved with the USC Thornton Outreach Program, having taught sectionals at 32nd Street School and Foshay Learning Center in Los Angeles. She finds no greater reward than sharing her passion for music with others.

Alexandra Miller (formerly Wallin), an active performer and teacher, was recently appointed 3rd Flute/Piccolo of the Redlands Symphony and 2nd Flute/Piccolo of the Marin Symphony. Additionally, she holds the positions of Second Flute with the California Symphony and 2nd Flute/Piccolo of the Stockton Symphony. She has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New World Symphony, Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, Long Beach Opera, Desert Symphony, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Dream Orchestra, San Bernadino Symphony and with the YMF Debut Orchestra in Los Angeles. Mrs. Miller was Principal Flute of the American Youth Symphony for seven seasons under the direction of Alexander Treger, Former Concertmaster of the L.A. Philharmonic. This chair was endowed by Mr. Richard Rosenthal and Ms. Katherine Spiller for the 2014-15 season, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Poliak for the 2012-13 season, and Ms. Geri Rotella and Peter Rotter for the 2010-11 season. Additionally, she has performed under the baton of James Conlon, Nicholas McGegan, Alan Silvestri, Carl St. Clair, Michael Tilson-Thomas, and John Williams. She has been the featured soloist with the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, the California State University, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra and the Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Miller was a flutist in the National Orchestral Institute, the Texas Music Festival, and the Round Top Festival Institute. She placed as a finalist in both the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra second flute audition and the West Point Band principal flute audition and as a semi-finalist in the South Dakota Symphony principal flute audition. In addition, Mrs. Miller is active in the Los Angeles recording scene and can be heard on the Bollywood film "Sairat" recorded at Sony Pictures Studios.


Special honors include the 1st prize in the woodwinds division of the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition and the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Tomorrow’s Stars Competition. Additionally, she was a recipient of the Leni Fe Bland Scholarship Competition and performed at the National Flute Association’s Annual Convention as a winner of the Masterclass Performers Competition. She has also performed at the NFA convention in a chamber music masterclass led by Leone Buyse and Fenwick Smith. Most recently, she placed as a prize-winning finalist in both the Myrna Brown Competition in Texas and the San Diego Flute Guild's Artist Gold Competition. She has received honors from the USC Thornton School including the Outreach Program Award and the Woodwind Chamber Music Award. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honor Society.
